The Riften Canal is the lower level of the city; small residences and an alchemy shop are built into the moisture ridden stone. Dark and traversed only along rickety catwalks, the canal is avoided by the more affluent citizens of Riften, as it is a common place for muggings and foul play. It also contains the entrance to The Ratway, the city under the city.

Vallina walked along the docks quietly, her blue eyes scanning the area. The female high elf shouldered people out of her way as she moved. She was on a mission, and was quite impatient. Although she didn't really know what the person she was looking for looked like, she was determined to find them. As she made her way down the docks, she asked a few people here and there who Cassin was. Being a member of the Thieves' Guild, she was looking for any possible way to make some coin.

It was a beautiful day in Riften, and this particular morning found Maloch walking the lower planks of the Riften's canal. Only the shadier folk came this far. Just one or two were seeing here, slipping from one shaded door to another, disappearing inside like puffs of smoke. Maloch kept his hood pulled low over his face. He was not the most intimidating orc. His race's reputation thankfully helped in these situations when he needed to put off potential cutpurses and cutthroats from attacking him. His actual looks did the opposite. He looked very fresh faced, even 'pretty' for an orc. He stood out. For the wrong reasons. Something he did not see every day: a high elf coming down the plankwalk. Whatever she was doing here, he could hardly guess. She obviously had a purpose. Her eyes were determined and she was moving rather quickly towards him.

Vallina just kept walking, her eyes narrowed, clearly fed up with not finding who she wanted. Her eyes focused on a figure ahead of her, and moved in its direction. Her eyebrows pulled together as she looked up at Maloch,"Do you happen to know where I could find somebody named Cassin?" She asked bluntly. She wasn't one for formalities and just wanted to get her job done. At the moment, she didn't have a whole lot of coin of her own, and she was determined to change that. She just had to find Cassin, who was seeming pretty impossible to find at the moment.

Maloch raised an eyebrow. Cassin? the old beggar guy? He had heard of the man. Seen him once. But why did she want to know? This was just getting stranger. "Sure. I can take you to him," he said, his voice surprisingly smooth.

Vallina nodded, not even bothering to say thank you. She never had been the nicest elf, and in her current annoyed state, she was even worse. Of course her mood was about to worsen, due to the fact that she did not realize that Cassin was a beggar, and probably had very little, if any, coin to giver her.

Maloch was not exactly expecting the greatest of hospitality out of her. Nonetheless, he led her back along the boardwalk for a ways, ducking this way and that, to a tucked away corner of the canal where there was a stack of old, weather eaten crates and barrels. On a pile of ripped up sails lay an old man wrapped up in a big, stinking fur, snoring away. "Well, there's Cassin," Maloch said matter-of-factly.

Vallina followed Maloch until they reached Cassin. Her eyes narrowed as she looked down at the old man. "This is Cassin?" She asked bitterly, glancing over at Maloch before huffing angrily. "Lovely." Vallina said sarcastically. This old man obviously had no money to give her, so she didn't really know what to do. She might have considered actually doing what she had come here to do, but she was already so on edge. She had come down to these wretched docks, looking to make some coin, only to find an old man with no money.

The man, Cassin, suddenly snorted and rolled over. "Wh-wha-? Who's there!?" he half-growled half-sputtered. He smelled like alcohol. Obviously working off the latest binge, he rubbed his bloodshot eyes and looked up into the faces of an orc and an elf. "Hmf. What do you want?" he asked. Maloch just shrugged and looked at Vallina. "He's all yours," he said, taking a few steps back.

Vallina sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. "I was told you were looking for somebody to get something for you. It seems that I made the mistake of expecting you would have coin to pay me." This was definitely not how she should have been speaking to the older man, but of course she was rude anyway.

Cassin waved his hand, like he was trying to swat away a fly. "No, no, no. I really need the... the thing. Yah. I have money left. And I will give you it if you get me... mmmm the stuff, yah..." He snorted, coughed, then rubbed his nose. "It's really not that much, missy."

Vallina watched him for a moment before sighing softly,"Alright." She wasn't really that interested, but coin was coin, so she was going to take the job. "What do you need me to get?" She asked.

"I'm dying soon you know," he said. "I'm an old man with only one desire, and that is to taste the finest of all fines: the... the... uh... I forget. But it's a drink." Maloch raised an eyebrow. "And how much are you offering for your... drink?" "You don't get it, greenskin!" the man slurred. "It's the best thing ever to touch your mouth. It's uh... it's worth a fortune so... so go find it for me." "Well what is it?" "I don't remember. But it tastes like fire and wine." It was a wild chicken chase if anything. But if the money was good enough, even Maloch was willing to go for it. And he was the least mercenary of anyone. "I'll give ya a thousand septims. My life's savin's."

Vallina's eyebrows instantly shot up at the mention of the amount of money she would earn. "I'll do it." She said, although she knew it was definitely going to be hard finding a drink without a name. "Is there anything else you can tell me about this drink?" She asked quickly, wanting to get down to business. She was willing to do it though, and her heart had softened a little about the fact that the old man was dying.

The old man shook his head. "It was many decades ago when I was a youngin. I just wanted to taste it again before I go on to Sovngarde, ya know." Maloch shrugged. "Fire and wine, hmm? Can't be too many drinks that taste like that." The sound of money sounded good to him too. "We'll find your drink, old man."
