"I would appreciate to know, what the date is, if you know." The creature insisted. Kaine was eager to re-learn the history he had passed, and it would be much simpler if he knew how many years had gone by. "Last time I knew, Tiber Septim died a few years ago." He attempted to pry some information out of the man, leading him on with prior historical events. Of course this would give-way to his true age, but he wasn't too worried about it. He knew that it was a dangerous place to start a fight, especially in such a tight quarters.

He froze. Confirmed. Vampire. There was no real other way to explain a slip up like that. Elves could not live that long. There were no spells. Could he be a resurrected soul? Well, that thought was not one to come to Fenris' mind. No. Vampire was going to be his first conclusion. He was rather geared towards that. "You're a little behind on that," Fenris said shortly, clearing his throat once. "The year is two hundred and eleven of the Fourth Era."

Kaine leaned back slightly, placing his hands on his knees. "Fourth Era, huh? It must have been quite a long time then." He chuckled, and then his grin extended into a twisted smile. "You look like you've seen a Monster. " He knew he had startled the man, and was quite eager to find out what had gone through his mind. His eyes glowed slightly with the reflection of the fire. "I know your kind.. They had plagued me like the fleas and ticks on the back-end of an Ice-troll." His voice became far darker. A Sinister and foreboding aura seemed to emanate from him, and the bonfire seemed to dim down to the coals. "You feel it, don't you? That Darkness, the Ancient Evil you seek to eradicate.."

A shiver went down Fenris' spine. This one was the ancient of ancient evil. While he sought to eradicate such evil, he was not going to suddenly start something while he was clearly outdone by levels of power of here. Where were his companions when he needed them? It was his foolish fault for going without anyone. He had insisted, had he not? And now he was facing possibly the greatest threat he had ever faced, and he was alone. All alone. But maybe he was overthinking again. He could handle his own for a while. If the vampire had not even heard of anything since the time of Tiber Septim's reign and fall, then he must not have been out and about in the world very long. Was he asleep all this time? Perhaps Fenris could take him. Not here though. There were people here. And even a vampire like this had to know better. "I've seen many monsters," he replied, "and as to ancient evils, I may seek to eradicate it, but it always tends to crop up again, like an eternal thorn in the side of the world."

A slight chuckle arose from Kaine as he listened to Fenris. "My boy, have you never thought that, maybe, the World itself is evil? And you, whomever you work for, are the thorn?" His twisted smile remained, all the while he made himself more comfortable. "The world has been in the Darkness for quite some time before the rise of mortals, whom is to say that Mortals are the plague?" He raised the theory, though only to cause Fenris to question himself. "Throughout my time, before you pesky mortals put me to sleep, I had raised a name for myself, one of terror, fear, and Respect.. I will not kill you, just yet. I want the world to know that I have Returned. Go to your Comrades, your 'Dawn Guard'.. Tell them of my Unlife..." He paused for a moment, as he thought to himself. "Or.." He paused once more, before taking a more light tone. "You could join me, and I shall see that your name lives in the annals of history, Forever." He added a slight chuckle to the word 'Forever'.

Crazy, undead vampire lord overcome by the lust for power? Not a total shocker there. Only, this one probably had some actual standing, if he was indeed so ancient and dark. "I will have to pass on the offer, your lordship," he said. "It may be fragile and small, but I love my mortal shell, and I don't want to be shed of it." He had his fists clenched in his lap, one in the other, and he could feel his nails digging into his flesh. But the pain of that was eclipsed by his anger.

"Very well." He muttered, his voice once again dark. He looked around, noting each person in the Inn that he was aware of. "Good thing you are here, too.. I was hoping to give a demonstration, since my previous prey has gone unseen as of yet." He began to laugh, and the campfire went completely out, the heat vanishing into the void of the cold that the Inn was sunken into. His eyes, despite the disappearance of the fire, continued to glow as bright as Secunda during a Clear night sky. "How many people do you think I could kill, Before you drew your sword?" Darkness suddenly filled the Inn, most definitely a form of an Illusion spell, to dull the eyesight.

What few patrons there were, they seemed to take notice of the fire's absence. A few muttering and complaints rose above the questioning murmurs. Fenris grit his teeth. "Probably all of them," he said tersely. "I have no swords to draw, in case you took no notice." He felt his hands itching to start a flame and burn the old cretin to a cinder, but as he had never really touched up on destruction magic, the best he could do was incapacitate the man.

"Too bad, you probably could have saved one." The voice muttered in the darkness, and a sudden flash of lightning seemed to shoot from where Kaine was originally positioned. The lightning arced and forked across the entire room, aimed toward anyone but Fenris himself. While the lightning crossed the room, Kaine casually made his way to the exit, making it clear that his curiosity was satisfied for the time being.

Fenris felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. And then there was lightning. Jumping from his seat, Fenris spread his hands forward. A massive aura shot forward and filled the room with golden light. The lightning struck its target, breaking through the ward only due to the difference in timing. There was a shout and a then a scream. Fenris could only hope he had used the spells in time to alleviate some of the damage at least. When he turned, the vampire was gone. He clenched his fists at his side. The Dawnguard needs to know about this freak, he thought quietly.
